The Federal Aviation Administration has finally provided a path forward for the legal use of drones in the United States. Finally. If you haven’t already heard of these laws, here’s a quick summary:
- Commercial drones must stay within line of sight of the operator
- They can only fly during daylight hours
- They must stay below speeds of 100 miles per hour (or 160kph)
- They must not fly above people who are uninvolved in the flight
This has been a great win for the commercial drone industry. Considering past rules were as strict as to condone all drone flight except from registered pilots. These regulations are pretty expansive. All except the final regulation. Even still, these regulations offer a lot of freedom for those in the drone industry.
All in all this is one small leap for man and one giant leap for drone kind.
